Men's Health Q & A

What services are available for men’s health?

Comprehensive Primary Care offers comprehensive health care services that focus on the unique needs of men. Dr. Kesavan takes a whole-person approach to men’s health care and provides preventive screenings like:

  • Annual physicals
  • Diabetes screenings
  • Cholesterol screenings
  • Prostate cancer screenings
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD) testing

Services are also available to diagnose and treat urologic and sexual dysfunction, and chronic health issues like high blood pressure and heart disease.

Dr. Kesavan also offers vaccinations in-office to protect against contagious diseases like pneumonia and the seasonal flu.

What happens during a men’s health consultation?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Kesavan reviews your personal and family medical history to identify any risk factors you have for chronic diseases. She also spends time discussing your lifestyle, diet, and exercise habits.

As part of a physical exam, Dr. Kesavan tests your muscle strength and joint flexibility, assesses your skin health, and checks your body for inflammation or other abnormalities. She also notes important details about your health, including your:

  • Weight
  • Height
  • Blood pressure
  • Body temperature
  • Heart rate and pulse

She may order blood work or other diagnostic tests to screen for high cholesterol and diabetes based on your medical history and existing health. Comprehensive Primary Care also offers on-site stress tests and electrocardiogram (EKG) testing for cardiovascular conditions.

You can get updated on vaccinations and address any concerns you have about your physical or mental health during your initial consultation.

How often do I need a men’s health appointment?

After your initial consultation, you should schedule a routine physical appointment once a year so that Dr. Kesavan can monitor changes in your health.

If you have existing health conditions, like diabetes or high blood pressure, you will need regular check-up appointments to ensure your condition is well-controlled. You may also need routine blood work more frequently if you’re taking medications to treat existing health issues.

Dr. Kesavan will discuss how often you need follow-up visits based on your individual needs. She also can refer you to a specialist if you need additional diagnostic tests or treatment for chronic health issues.
